Real Mexican Supermarkets in Berlin: Where Authenticity Lives

Berlin Wall

You already know the Mexican treasures Berlin has to offer – now let me show you the shops where Mexican expertise and passion truly belong. These mexican supermarkets in Berlin were founded by Mexicans for Mexicans (and all other lovers of authentic products).

Why Real Mexican Supermarkets Make a Difference

It’s not just about selling here – Mexican culture lives here. The owners know every product, its origin, and how best to use it. You notice this immediately on your first visit: the tortillas aren’t just any wraps, but real corn tortillas made with a traditional recipe. The salsas don’t just burn with heat; they tell the story of different Mexican regions.

5 Authentic Mexican Supermarkets in Berlin

Chili & Paprika – México/Latino Shop

What began as a small chili shop has become a mecca for Mexican food in Berlin. The original owner loved cooking with hot peppers and chilis but could barely find the right varieties. So he opened his own shop. Since he had to fill the small shop with more products, he initially chose Latin American specialties – today Mexican products dominate the shelves.

Since the ownership change in 2022, the business has been run by a tequila expert and a PhD chemist from the food industry. The selection is impressive: an entire wall is lined with different tortilla and tostada brands, plus various salsas and beans, and even Mexican cheese is available.

Even if a product is sold out, you’ll often find an alternative. Things get particularly exciting during Mexican holidays like Independence Day or Día de los Muertos – then there are special products and promotions. Best to follow their Instagram account for current information.

Taco Tales “El Mercado”

Ivette Pérez from Mexicali brought her culinary expertise from the catering industry with her to Germany. In Berlin, she found her way into the food scene through Mexican cooking classes. After some time, she published the cookbook “Taco Tales,” which apparently caught the attention of the organizers behind Markthalle Pfefferberg.

When the market hall took shape, Ivette was there with her Mexican shop from the beginning. The selection here sets standards and definitely belongs to the top tier of Mexican shops in Berlin.

The market hall is currently closed due to water damage, but Ivette and her team expect to reopen soon – best to follow their Instagram account for current updates.

Address: Schönhauser Allee 176, 10119 Berlin
Status: Currently closed due to water damage

La Tiendita

The name says it all: “La Tiendita” means “the little shop” in Spanish. It used to be called “tiendita de la esquina” (corner store) because many were located on street corners. It’s the Mexican term for what we call a “späti” in Germany – just with Mexican products.

Similar to some corner shops in Neukölln with large Turkish communities, Mexican shops offer basic groceries like flour, rice, or dairy products alongside their specialties. The similar food culture makes it possible.

The pictures show a well-stocked and neatly organized shop that offers Mexican basics and more – from tortillas and salsas to fresh products. The location in Kreuzberg fits perfectly with the multicultural character of the neighborhood.

Address: Oranienstraße 29, 10999 Berlin

International Alternatives for Basics

Berlin wouldn’t be Berlin if there weren’t other options too. Alongside these specialized Mexican shops, there are also international supermarkets that carry Mexican products – perfect for the basics and often more conveniently located.
