Google shows 24 Mexican restaurants in Frankfurt – so far, only four of them have made it into my restaurant guide. The first impression: not much truly authentic Mexican food, more Tex-Mex and American cooking, often under Mexican names. But there is hope: two of them rank among the most authentic in all of Germany.
Remember that my restaurant guide only rates the Mexican offering of each restaurant – not quality, taste, service, or heat level. However authenticity usually comes together with quality and flavor. You can find more details in my restaurant guide.
El Pacífico
80 points – long-time mexican flavors and an impressive Tequila Bar
For around ten years now, El Pacífico has been serving homemade Mexican food alongside a solid cocktail bar. The concept feels more like a taquería or antojería. The totopos come with a nice selection of salsas, and a few American snacks have slipped onto the menu as well – that seems to be standard in Mexican restaurants across Europe by now, even if it costs them a few points.
The heart of the place is the tacos: organic nixtamal tortillas filled with cochinita pibil, carne asada, or shrimp. Then you see fajitas on the menu – technically from northern Mexico, but I mostly know them from Chili’s or Applebee’s and a popular plate in the US. Still, they are a good option for people who don’t like it too spicy. I saw entomatadas on a menu for the first time here – the milder cousins of enchiladas, made with a cooked tomato sauce without chile (in spanish caldo de tomate). Unfortunately, the menu is quite meat-heavy, with very few vegan or vegetarian options.
Where El Pacífico really shines is the drinks menu. Mexican draft beer (you’ll have to find out which one for yourself), micheladas, solid cocktails, and an impressive mezcal selection – although they actually have more tequilas than mezcals. The aguas frescas can make anyone happy: cucumber-lime, classic horchata, jamaica, and even horchata-strawberry. On top of that you get German beer, wine, coffee – everything you need.
The website is still under construction, but you can already find the menu on the homepage. They are active on Instagram, which gives you a better feel for the place. On paper, El Pacífico has everything you need for a great Mexican experience.

Yumas
82 points – Mexican Classics That Feel New Outside Mexico
In 2025, Yumas opened its third location and presents itself as “natural Mexican food” with a menu that goes far beyond tacos and burritos. You’ll find molletes here – super well known in Mexico, almost invisible in Europe. The main dishes are where things get really interesting: vegetarian chile relleno, mole rojo with rice and beans, guisados de carne, and then a Mexico City classic: torta de chilaquiles y milanesa: a schnitzel-and-chilaquiles sandwich, usually served on telera or bolillo, but here it comes in a brioche bun; some believe it shouldnt be legal. Cochinita pibil is available as a main dish, served in a plate with sweet potato on the side – not traditional, but interesting.
The taco section surprises with options you rarely see. Barbacoa is particularly exciting – a very traditional dish that is hard to replicate and where thoughtful interpretations absolutely have their place. According to my guide, barbacoa is not exactly a common sight on menus. Yumas also dedicates an entire section to alambres – the Mexican answer to fajitas, like you’d find them in taquerías in Mexico City. Similar ingredients, different technique, and Yumas offers several variations.
The drinks menu is impressive: a strong tequila and mezcal selection with tasting flights so you can try different options. Apparently, they have even more mezcal than what’s listed on the menu – just ask. The cocktails are bar classics in a Mexican twist: Mezcal Mule, Oaxaca Old Fashioned, Mezcal Sour. There are also aguas frescas, with flavors that change regularly.
The website is sleek and tells you everything you need to know. On Instagram, you’ll find specials that don’t appear on the regular menu.

These two champions score so highly – currently the top scores in Germany – for two key reasons:
First, both have large menus with many different Mexican elements. It’s not just about more dishes, but about more variety. Second, the drinks selection is outstanding, not only in the number of options but also in the range of flavors and categories. Multiple types of aguas frescas, a broad mezcal selection, thoughtful cocktails – this level of depth is rare.
Here’s the link to my interactive map of Mexican restaurants and shops in Germany. I regularly add new places – the overall offering is growing, even if truly authentic Mexican restaurants are still not that easy to find.
