5 Mexican Restaurants in Berlin – Where Every Bite Hits the Mark

Berlin Wall

Berlin’s Mexican restaurant scene keeps growing, but with so many choices, true authenticity can be hard to find. My Mexican restaurant guide shows that these five spots are among the most authentic Mexican restaurants in the capital – and interestingly, that lines up with what the market already knows about these pioneers: real Mexican cooking.

Whether you’re craving elevated Mexican cuisine or a laid-back taquería vibe, these restaurants deliver different experiences, but all with genuine Mexico flavor.

Reminder: My restaurant authenticity guide only rates the Mexican offering of each restaurant – not quality, taste, service, or heat level. You can find more details in my restaurant guide on picosa.co.

Maria Bonita, Mitte

65 Points – Pioneers of mexican authentic food

This restaurant was founded more than 15 years ago and has seen several operators over time. The Maria Bonita brand has steadily evolved and found its home on the border between Mitte and Prenzlauer Berg. Here you’ll find classic tacos and quesadillas plus rotating specials that keep things interesting.

In 2025, the Maria Bonita crew popped up all over the city with different events. Follow them on Instagram – they are very active and you’ll always know what they’re up to.

Taqueria El Oso, Kreuzberg

57 Chiles – Closed but Not Forgotten

Taqueria El Oso has unfortunately been closed for some time, but it was very popular in its neighborhood. The focus here was almost entirely on tacos, with meat as the star. There were a few vegetarian alternatives, but people mainly came for traditional meat specialties typical of a Mexican street‑food taquería, with beloved dishes like carnitas, cochinita, and lengua.

One big advantage back then was its location in a small market hall, which made it easy to turn any visit into a full‑on food fest. El Oso had barely any online presence, even in its active years.

UPDATE 2026: Taquería el Oso has opened its door again!

Comedor, Berlín Charlottenburg

57 puntos – Elevated Dining with a Mexican Soul

New on the scene, this concept comes from the owner of Taqueria Chaparro, Chef Raul Oliver Arriaga. In the kitchen you’ll find Chef Yahir Franco, formerly head chef at FREA, who also created ELOTL – an exciting project full of Mexican flavors.

Comedor serves beautiful dishes composed with Mexican techniques and flavors, prepared using local produce. This is a place to sit down and enjoy a full dinner experience, paired with a refined drinks list featuring creative cocktails and high‑quality spirits.

You can stay up to date via their website and Instagram. You can also follow Chef Yahir on Instagram if you want to dive deeper into his projects.

Chaparro, Kreuzberg

54 puntos – Mexican Fast Food for Beginners

Taqueria Chaparro is said to be Berlin’s oldest remaining pioneer of Mexican food. I see the concept as Mexican street food for beginners. The menu acts as an introduction to taco culture and helps with familiar alternatives that might have different names in Mexico.

You order in three steps: 1) base, 2) filling, 3) toppings. For the base you choose taco, burrito, quesadilla, torta, or bowl. All ingredients are familiar, and if not, they’re still easy to understand. You’ll find traditional dishes among the fillings, and the menu is large enough to make your evening special. The setup is straightforward and practical when you don’t have much time but still want real Mexican food – a great alternative if you’re tired of standard junk food.

You’ll find information on current specials on their website.

Taqueria Ta Cabron, Mitte

54 puntos – Veteran of the Scene

This is an old friend and pioneer that settled in this part of Berlin long before gentrification. Even though it’s centrally located, the area was far from polished back then – around 2010 you still saw empty buildings here, something hard to imagine today.

For more than 15 years, TaCabron has seen it all and, with new operators since 2022, still offers a trustworthy Mexican experience that stays true to its taquería style. You’ll also find Mexican beers, tequila, and mezcal of solid quality, margaritas, and other Mexican touches that complete the authentic experience.

Their website has details on catering offers, while Instagram keeps you updated on what’s happening at the restaurant.
